Kangahun is located very close to the rutile and bauxite mining activities in Sierra Leone (diamond and mineral mining). The community is widespread over a large area, with facilities such as a large birthing clinic, small markets and a community centre which services its approximate population of 3000 people. Freedom Tree began activities in this community in the summer of 2013 and continues to build strong relationships with the people here.
When Freedom Tree works in a village, we measure development in each of the five pillars. The more we engage the community, the higher the scores, which results in reduction of maternal and infant mortality.
